Character counter

Paste or type your text to count characters, words and lines, and see at a glance if it fits your Instagram bio, a TikTok name or your Discord profile.

Characters counts one per Unicode character, like the profile previews on this site. Some apps count decorated letters and most emoji as two: UTF-16 shows that stricter count.

Limits on each app

  • Instagram name0/30
  • Instagram bio0/150
  • TikTok name0/30
  • Discord display name0/32
  • Discord About me0/190
  • Free Fire nickname0/12

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text in the box.
  2. Read the totals: they update as you type.
  3. Check the bar of each app: red means the text is too long for that field.

Why fancy letters can count double

Decorated letters such as 𝓪 or 𝗮 and most emoji sit outside the basic range of Unicode, so each of them is stored as two pieces called UTF-16 units. Some apps count those pieces instead of the characters, so a 20-letter name in a fancy style can be counted as 40.

The counter shows both numbers. If an app rejects text that looks short enough, compare it with the UTF-16 total.

The limits on each app

Instagram allows 30 characters in the name and 150 in the bio. TikTok allows 30 in the name. On Discord the display name takes up to 32 characters and About me up to 190. Free Fire nicknames stop at 12. When a bar turns red, shorten the text or pick a simpler style.

Questions and answers

Are spaces counted?

Yes. Characters includes spaces and line breaks; Without spaces leaves them out.

How are words counted?

A word is a group of letters or numbers between spaces or punctuation, so “don’t” is one word and an emoji on its own is not a word.

Why does an app say my text is too long when the counter says it fits?

That app probably counts UTF-16 units, where decorated letters and most emoji count as two. Check the UTF-16 total, or use plain letters for part of the text.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?

Your text is counted on your device and never sent anywhere. The last text stays in your browser, so it is still there when you come back.
