Where styles work on Discord
Display names and server nicknames accept up to 32 characters, including decorated letters. About Me accepts up to 190.
Your username does not: it only allows lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and full stops.
Discord also has its own formatting
In messages you do not need special letters for basic effects: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, `code` and ||spoiler|| work out of the box. Use the styles here for names and bios, where that formatting does not apply.
Questions and answers
Do I need Nitro for fancy fonts?
No. These are normal Unicode characters and work on any account.
Why does my name look different on another device?
Each device draws characters with its own fonts. The letters are the same, the drawing changes slightly.
Can I use them in channel names?
Server owners can, within Discord’s own rules for channel names. Some symbols may be removed automatically.
